The origins of JJ are quite controversial. First attributed to China, India, Japan and Brazil where it became superior to other styles of Jiu Jitsu. Making Brazil the world class centre of this art. Being the most complete art of all self defence; it allows a smaller person to control a larger opponent by specialising in take downs, ground control and submission.

The sport of Jiu Jitsu brings out a competitive side where the athlete demonstrates the physical and psychological attributes, techniques and abilities with the objective of rendering the opponent into submission.

A good BJJ instructor will insist on correct technique rather than brute strength.
